This is not really a quick-and-easy job despite the humor in the next heading. Yeah, that’s 18 steps, but then the other jobs take lots of steps too…. The first job is to export the mannequin so it can be used in Blender. I’m also using Blender 2.79, again should work in recent Blender versions (2.8 and above is supposed to be a major change in Blender so it might fail there).

I am using Unreal Engine version 4.18, but it should be similar in recent engine versions. The older versions of Unreal Engine 4 it just doesn’t work, apparently, but the later versions, I got it to mostly work by searching online, through the Udemy Blender Character Creator course, and through lots of trial-and-error.

So, if you exprot them esh when it is say at x3 y5, then the pivot in UE4 will NOT be where the mesh pivot is in Blender, but at 0,0,0, so your object won’t move, scale, or rotate as you expect.Searching online, I see many (like me) have wanted to work on characters in Blender by exporting the Mannequin skeleton provided by Epic, but there are problems with doing this. Likewise the jetty, join them into one object, etc.ĮDIT #02: Also, if you are exporting everything at their current locations, the pivot points will be off once in UE4 as it expects the mesh to be built around world origin of 0,0,0.

The boat, make the planks people sit on part of the boat, no separate. Including joining some meshes together to make a logical object. Did you import everything as one fbx? I’m guessing not, that each element was separate otherwise you couldn’t move them individually.ĮDIT: Also, some of the assets are rotated at strange angles, that isn’t going to make it easy to pull them into UE4, there are a few things I’d do to these items before I’d try importing them to fix scale etc. However, the other assets then either need scaling in Blender, or once pulled into UE4. 070 to make it the right size, (std skiff approx 4.6m x 1.42). Don’t forget, in UE4, you’re either 1st person or 2rd person, so everything needs to be scaled accordingly on import. First things forst, make sure everything is close to “real world” sizes. Is this BEFORE it is scaled by 100 in Blender or afterwards? If before, the answer could literally be as simple as, everything is so large, you’re going beyond the visual clipping limits.

Ok, I’m not sure I totally got the last statement.
