I use AutoCAD 2009 and Revit 2011, Im no veteran in these programs so please talk simple/clearly. is this not the problem? thou, it shouldn't be, right? The model is faaar away from 0,0 if looking at the Y coordinate you see the number "6.58E+09". I have also tested by creating a new file with some lines on the location as the original file. Try editing the drawing and wblocking out just what you need with a new origin. If you have any issues, let me know in the comments below and we can figure it out together – that way if others are having the same problems we can offer a solution. This may be the same problem we have importing civil drawings where the drawing's origin is too far away. The funtion of importing a specific external block from a different DWG file is active only in Inventor drawing views using the DWG format (not the IDW ). Now, you can add walls over the autoCAD file, or build up the model in 3D inside of Revit.

Make sure the scale matches the scale of the original AutoCAD drawing. You can choose to preserve the colour or import it in black and white.
#Autocad drawing will not import to revit 2011 update#
For example, if we make a change to our floor plan in AutoCAD after linking it to Revit, it will update inside of Revit.īe sure to check the import options inside of Revit. Making a change to a referenced drawing from it’s original program will update in real time inside of Revit. If you set this option, any text in the imported file is visible and can be cropped by the crop region of the view. Because Revit does not have an Object Enabler, we have found this workaround for importing 3D geometry from AutoCAD MEP into Revit MEP. Getting closer, but it’s not the sweet, sweet 3D you want. For example, you might want an AutoCAD object to appear only in a Revit floor plan view and not in a 3D view. When you go into AutoCAD MEP and change PROXYGRAPHICS to 1, then reimport the drawing, it has been flattened into a 2D block. Linking the CAD file inserts a reference drawing. Imports a CAD drawing into the active Revit view only. Linking a CAD file allows AutoCAD and Revit to work seamlessly together. CAD Viewer: Click the Show/Hide CAD Viewer button to display the CAD Viewer. If desired, the user can combine all of the drawing entities into one layer and/or all the imported 3D entities into one object. The user can import any or all of the layers. Next, go to the “Insert” tab and click on “Link CAD”. CAD files are imported in layers that were defined when the original drawing was created. If it is a section drawing, open the section view in Revit. For example, if the AutoCAD dwg file is of the ground floor plan, open the ground floor plan view in Revit. Next, open up Revit and open the same view the drawing is of. This helps import the drawing in Revit to be centred to the origin, rather than going off the page. Choosing a centralised base point to move the drawing from, select the centre of the origin. Select everything and type “move” into the command prompt. If you are not aware with the drawing unit, you may create a metric drawing using imperial template. But that works only if you create the drawing with correct template and unit. Let’s say you receive a metric drawing and want to convert it to imperial. The process of exporting from AutoCAD and importing to Revit is quite simple but if you overcomplicate your original dwg file, it can cause headaches.įirst, open your DWG file in AutoCAD. We covered how you can convert an AutoCAD drawing’s unit to other unit. First things first, make sure your AutoCAD drawing is neat and tidy.
